If you use an old iPhone, chances are you've run into the problem of not being able to download new apps. This might be due to Apple no longer supporting iOS updates for your device or app developers optimizing software for the latest iOS release, which pushes you to buy a new iPhone. But what if you don't want to do that?

Luckily, you can download older versions of apps on your iPhone in several safe and legal ways. And it's far easier than you might think! So, here are all the options you have to download old versions of apps.

This is the easiest option available to download an older version of an app, but one that you may not know about. That's because the App Store doesn't clarify whether an older version of an app exists.

On the app page, it's common to come across a message telling you that an app Requires iOS 13.0 or later, leading you to believe that your phone is incompatible. But this isn't always true. You can ignore that message and proceed to hit the download button anyway. When you do, the App Store will display a message asking if you want to download an older version of the app.

If this doesn't work for you, you will see the following message: This application requires iOS 13.0 or later. In this case, there are a couple of other solutions you can try to solve the problem of how to download an older version of an app. But if you want to learn more about iOS before continuing, you can read our explanation of Apple's iPhone software.

The second option for how to download older versions of apps is to find them in your Purchased app history. This works well if you've recently reset your iPhone to factory settings, only to find out that some of the previously installed apps now require a later version of iOS to work.

Additionally, some people find that the App Store won't automatically give them an option to download a previous compatible version. This is despite having just had a working version installed on their phone. If you're one of those people, try downloading an app from your Purchased app list instead. We tried it out and discovered that we were able to get an app that we had first downloaded in 2015, one that's now only available on iOS 13.2 or later.

I've tried re-downloading apps from my Purchased list and found that it worked with no issues at all. But what do you do if you haven't purchased or downloaded an app in the past? One workaround is to use a newer iPhone running on a more recent iOS to download the app you want.

The key is to make sure you log into your iCloud account on the newer device to ensure that the app is saved to your history of app purchases. Once you download the app, head back to your old iPhone and try downloading it from your Purchased list, following the same steps as in the previous method.

To test this method, we used an iPhone XS to log into our iCloud account. We then downloaded an app that we knew we couldn't download on to our older device. Once we got the app, we went back to a spare iPhone 5S and downloaded the same app from our Purchased list, and it worked!

The benefit of these methods is that they don't require you to download any third-party apps that may be dangerous or present security issues. But, of course, it doesn't mean our methods will work for every app on the App Store.

But with how easy it is to see if an older app version is available, it's well worth giving these methods a go. If you suspect another issue stopping you from getting an app, don't worry, as there are several other fixes for apps not downloading on your iPhone that you can try.

Always try the regular download method from the App Store first to see if an older version exists. You can also get any app that you've downloaded in the past by going to your Purchased list. And if all else fails, try downloading the app using a newer iPhone, and then find and install it from your purchase history.

What started as an app in which to share photos to which you could apply different touch-ups and filters, ended up becoming one of the most powerful and influential social networks on the planet and today remains as such. We are talking, of course, about Instagram APK, a network from which you can meet people, send messages to other users and feed a profile where you can share images, videos, stories or reels, as well as follow all kinds of influencers, brands, stores and celebrities. Once you download Instagram Android, you'll have access to the fifth most used social platform worldwide, only behind giants such as Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp and FB Messenger with more than 1.2 billion active users. It is the window used by many of them to show their lives on a personal level, but also to show themselves as a brand, increase the visibility of companies and humanize them with valuable content.

So you own an older iOS or iPadOS device. You are very happy with your device because it still works like new, and you can do pretty much anything you want with it. However, your device may not support the latest version of iOS or iPadOS software. This may mean that your device could be too old for many apps as they may require a newer version of iOS or iPadOS to run properly. It can be quite a pain to download such apps.

Although the message above tells you to update, you may not be able to update even if you want to if your device does not support the iOS X.X version. So how are you going to download this app? Do not worry; There is a way to do this.

However, you may still be able to download the last compatible version. This means that, for instance, you may be able to download the Netflix app on your iOS device running 9.3.5 or 10.3.3. This article explains how you can do that.

You may be able to download and install previously purchased apps (perhaps you have deleted them). This can mean two different things. So, there are two different ways you can try to do this. I explain them below:

2. Ok, you may think that #1 above does not work because you have never downloaded the particular app that you want to install. Then how can you do that? If this is the case, you can buy the app on a newer device and then find and download it on your older device. Here is how you can do this:

Thank you very much for posting and sharing this information. iPad and other Apple products are very expensive and on top of that I was dissatisfied by the fact that they become useless if apps cannot be downloaded on a functional iPad. Backward compatibility is a must for customers and your info helped to get use of my iPad.

Hi I have ipad 4 with IOS 10.3 and cant download FB or All4 ITV etc as they all needed IOS 12 or higher.I reset my ipad with a brand new apple ID as my previous apple ID storage is full. Also I only use the ipad to authorise family sharing requests for my young daughter and to generally browse etc.

The ipad works perfectly well.albeit a bit slow but it is frustrating that previous apps that used to be stored on like FB and all4 etc now cant be downloaded. Is there a way?Any help would be really appreciatedThanks

Hey, Not sure this helps but when I downloaded on my old O.G. iPad I got prompted whether I wanted to download an older compatible version of the app.I said yep.I used the workaround described above where you download on a newer device and then download the *purchased* app on the old device

There is a 3rd option. Temporarily use the Apple ID of another user (family/friend) that already purchased the app, so after signing in on the device with that user, the app will appear in the Purchased tab and then you will be able to downloaded it.

After some amount of time, the App Store will display a notification saying that no, you can't have this app because it doesn't work with the version of iOS that your device has. However, it will also offer to let you download a previous version.

Speaking of newer setups, though, it looks as if you can only use this download trick with apps that you have previously bought. If this older device is your sole iOS one then that's true, but if you have a newer one as well, you can do something more.

Buy it on the newer device and then it's in your Purchased history on all your iOS devices. And that means also on your older one. Give it a few minutes for the information to propagate through the App Store but thereafter you should be able to do this download trick and get the previous version that works with your older device.
